Jason Azoulay is the Georgia Research Alliance Vasser-Woolley Distinguished Investigator in Optoelectronics, an associate professor in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and co-director of the Center for Organic Photonics and Electronics at Georgia Tech.
Before joining Georgia Tech, he was an associate professor in the School of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi. He earned his doctorate in chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and completed postdoctoral studies at Sandia National Laboratories.
Azoulay's research group combines expertise in synthetic chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering to develop and apply next-generation functional materials. Research areas include homogeneous catalysis for polymer synthesis; electronic, photonic, magnetic, and quantum materials; device fabrication and engineering; chemical sensing in complex aqueous environments for environmental monitoring and biomedicine; and the synthesis, application, and engineering of high-performance polymers across a range of technology platforms.
His work has helped advance large interdisciplinary and center-level research efforts in conjugated polymers, optoelectronics, and chemical sensing. His contributions have been recognized with a Bell Labs Prize from Nokia Bell Labs, a U.S. Department of Energy Early Career Research Program award, election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and recognition as a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors.
